BEST OF CHARLOTTE 2009So many categories, so little time ... Certainly, we here at Creative Loafing know that you could be spending more time in the summer sun than sitting inside filling out your picks for the 22nd annual Best of Charlotte edition. But to our eternal delight, many Queen City denizens don't mind holding off on that tan (or burn) a little while longer, as they understand that it's their input that makes our BOC issue the biggest of the year. And for 2009, despite the economic downturn, we don't anticipate a downturn in the number of entries we receive, all of them collectively trumpeting what readers believe to be the most — and, in some instances, least — memorable people, places and things as they pertain to the Queen City. One change for '09: On this year's ballot, you'll notice a lot more categories with the words "Specify Location" at the end of them. That's because with more and more conglomerates forming with each passing minute, the little guys are getting squeezed out altogether. This addition levels the playing field for all. Additionally, all locations of a specified chain may not be created equal. So, for example, if you want to vote for Borders for Best Bookstore, you'll need to specify whether you're voting for the store on Rea Road, the one on Colony Road, or the one at Northlake Mall. Ballots that simply state "Borders" will not be counted in that particular category. Ballots must be received by June 29; the issue will hit the streets Aug. 5. The rules: Only one entry per person, no photocopied ballots, and at least a third of the ballot (minimum 45 categories) must be filled out for the ballot to count. Name, address and phone number are required. Submissions by ballot stuffers (and we know who you are!) will be tossed. As always, thanks for your support! |
